Subject:  Marine Tanks on Okinawa - ShermanholicsList thread.

I am in the middle of a Marine M4A2 W 75 with track ALL OVER IT and during my research I have noticed that many of the Marine Tanks (Especially 2 Batt.) seem to be M4A3s!! Even in Steve Zaloga's Excellent Concord book on Tank battles of the Pacific they are miscaptioned. The give away to identify these tanks are the engine supports for the doors and the rear hull plate.

I know this has been a running discussion at times -- Hell, I remember when people swore that the Iwo Jima Marine Shermans were M4A2s - Not M4A3s

Also I noticed that these must have replacement tanks at some point. There is another pic of a mid production M4A2 Dry with a mid low bustle turret and a all around vision cupola w/o ldrs hatch....

Weird huh??

Chris
