Mike, you can't rely on the turret to date the tank. In the remanufacturing process the turret was removed and there was no requirement to put it back on the hull it came from. If you can get the tank's serial off the data plate (or the rear upper hull plate in the case of a small hatch M4A3) I can tell which month it was made.

From what I can see (weld style, shape of right front plate) this tank was probably built before applique began being installed at Ford around August 1943. It looks to have hull lift lugs without the "pads" at the bottom, dating it January 1943 or later. The serial is probably 11685 to 12585.

The turret probably does date from the range you noted. If it's a General Steel Castings (G in Shield) turret, you can usually see the acceptance dates stamped into the raised area around the gunner's periscopic sight.
