This an old thread but I thought I'd add a thought or two. Paul, I agree with your comments regarding the different ways to reach the goal. Perfect Zimmerit.

I wold like to add one comment and one possibly different technique. First, any of the methods that require putty or a bonding agent should be carefully masked at the edges. Cleanup is much easier because the putty or epoxy is hard to deal with and save details.

Secondly, softening plastic with a solvent and then raking or stamping the part could be part of your tool kit.

Curved parts like mantles and German vision ports are easier to manage this way.
