Chapter 1: Backdating the Pershing Turret

The T26E1 pilot model had some large differences from the production T26E3, depicted in the Tamiya kit. These differences are:

Split loader's hatch rather than Oval loader's hatch
No shell ejection hatch on left turret wall
Did not have secondary antenna mount on roof
No centrally mounted MG mount
Five vertically stored spare track links
Presence of the lift ring on right turret roof edge

I used a spare loader's hatch from a Tamiya M4A3 and marked the space on the turret roof and hacked away! After working with files to get the Sherman hatch to fit, I filled in the remaining hole from the kit's oval hatch opening. To replicate the bullet splash/raised lip, I super glued a small piece of styrene rod and built it up with putty.

The secondary antenna mount, the shell ejection hatch and the MG mount are easy corrections. I added the lift ring and made the canvas mantlet frame from rod and bits of sprue.
