Hello Christophe:
I don't have the latest AA conversion for the Tamiya kit. However, I used their older one which was a full resin kit and, I believe, shares some parts with their current release. I'd say that the turret is the same from the AA website pictures.
I would say that their older effort was not that bad. Certainly there were some areas to touch up but to broadly condemn it is too much. I would have felt fine building it up but for the fact that I wanted thinner and more to scale add-on armor and I wanted to use the excellent Tamiya kit as a base. That's the reason why I started my scratch conversion.
Based on photos, the current AA conversion has added the brackets on the nose armor and the shield at the top of the recuperator springs. These are accurazing improvements over their original.
I would say that anyone armed with some of the pics from the Hunnicutt Pershing book can make a very accurate SP. This is, after all, my goal as well.
