Hi Andy,
Oh no, brick houses are fine. The bricks of Dutch houses are normally small (similar to yours) but should be identical in colour (red, brown/red, orange/red). I checked the books I have on Market Garden (including the great Then and Now) and the British did pass multiple houses on their way to Arnhem. The Utrechtseweg (road to the town of Utrecht) was a major road the British used to walk towards Arnhem, and it is a flat cobblestone road. The Dutch use flat bricks only, not really rounded stones, so you might (...) want to flatten the bricks a bit to create a more surface. If you are even thinking to make such an effort (and spoil the base) I can send you some scans.
