Wash, drybrush plus
In this photo you can see the washing and drybrusing that has enhanced the many rivets and especially the detail in the road wheels. Washes were a combination of Windsor/Newton raw umber oil paint, Humbrol flat black, turpentine and Windsor/Newton Glazing & Blending Medium. The Glazing & Bleding Medium helps the wash blend a bit easier and gets rid of some of the hard edges. Be careful not to add too much otherwise you will get excessive gloss. Drybrushing was accomplished with Windsor/Newton oil paints and Valejo acrylic paints. Rubber on the roadwheels was first painted Tamiya flat black then drybrushed with Valejo black brown. I find this makes a convincing rubber like color. The markings are a combination of a stylized cherry blossom decal from Tamiya's Shinhoto Chi-Ha kit and I hand-painted 'I' character on the turret and 'I' and 'Wa' on the number plate. The Shi-Ki command tank officially was never in combat but one never knows what can happen. The markings are to represent Iwashita Independent Tank Company that attacked Clark field where my father was stationed in WW II. There are no official markings but a pair of Chi-Ha Shinhotos in a period photo of the attcak does deffinately show the katakana 'I' on the turret but I couldn't clearly make out the hull markings. So most of this is conjecture. |
