Chapter 5: The bike...

I am using the bike and rider from the Tamiya Despatch Rider set. The bike is easy to assemble, about a dozen parts all told. I don't plan on getting suicidal, so I'm not replacing the spokes. I plan to use paint to create the illusion of spokes (we'll see). Anyway, after a plea posted here and on Armorama, I got links to a bunch of photos. I've added brake and other cables to the handlebars as shown in the photos. The brake cables are copper wire scraps, and the other cables are stretched sprue. In the photos I have, they all disappear down the front fork, so that's where mine go! The kit comes with a decal sheet for adding the spedometer. The engine details need some work, but most of that will be hidden by the rider.

I've painted PollyScale grimy black in all the shadow areas and on the darker parts of the bike. Next, it'll be finishing the paintjob and adding any other details that make sense. I'll be adding the saddle bags after the rest of the bike is painted. The saddle bags are very plain and hollow backed. I've filled the backs with wood glue, and the straps need detailing. The rider is started (see next blog).
