Thanks Paul. I have used the moto-tool method, liquid cement, and just
recently, Mr. Surfacer. Just painted on it looks OK if you can make sure to
blend it and not leave a lump at the edge. Stippling didn't work as well as
I had hoped, ending up a bit too rough. I found that MrS1000 is good for
painting over applied casting marks (In my case cut from Tamiya sprues) to
blend them into the surface. (In fact, the height variations you get from
shaved numbers is just what you want to replicate the variations in serial
and lot numbers that were made up from separate blocks. The foundry's
trademark and the part number, however, appear to be made as one block, so
they should be uniform.)
Going back a post to your differential housing numbers, what size are they?
The smallest ones available here are listed as 2.0mm or 5/64 (for an 'H'),
which equates to.078 or 2-3/4 inches full size. Still a bit too big, which
is noticable when you try to fit a certain number of characters within a
given envelope - like on the circular part of a 3-pc diff hsg or the center
of a 75mm turret roof. A set of 1 inch and 2 inch characters would be nice.
