Chapter 25 - I have got a one track mind.

The topic of this chapter is about the piecing together of the single link tracks that come with the set. The detail in these links from the maker ModelKasten is typically remarkable in finesse. They don't have the hollow guide horn though that was on the real one, but these things are so tiny some engineering issues about producing the plastic replicas most likely curtailed this detail. Still, they are lovely. However, like a beautiful rose they also have their thorns. These would be the tiny pins that come with tracks. Hypercare and attention IS required if one is not to botch these up. Do not use too much glue or you will melt the pins and tracks. I used Testors liquid cement poured into an old Tamiya "Extra Thin Cement" bottle so I could have a tiny brush,(the Testors one is way too big!), to add a miniscule amount of cement to just hold the pin in and bond it to the link without melting anything. There are very few extras, (a pet peeve of mine when it comes to MK tracks), so be careful.

After assembling the neccessary lengths for both sides, I then coated them with an airbrushed, ( go gently here Squire, as excessive pressure and handling could break your lengths), flat black primer. (picture #1.)

Picture 2. is of a raw track and #3. is with the flat black on.

Pictures 4. 5. 6. & 7.- I usually in the past have made my tracks really rusty and dirty and then brought the matal back with drybrushing metal colours onto the tracks. This time however I wanted to have fairly basic "metal" looking tracks. So I just airbrushed, (Carefully!), metal colour from Hombrol and then burnished this up.(CAREFULLY!) You can see in 6. that there is some disengaged lengths, (which is pretty unavoidable), - this is not a big deal as I can fix them up later.

Oh and remember, careful building and handling of these fragile track legnths is manditory for a successful conclusion to this project. When burnished up nicely, I put them aside to wait until the painting and aging of the vehicle as a whole was complete, at which time I will slap these babies on.
