Chapter 3 - The Chassis

The main areas for attention on the chassis are the brakes. Unfortunately, being taken from AA’s Pioneer Tank Transporter, the kit items are inaccurate for an R100. With these parts built, and with the aid of the Tank Museums’ ‘Plans Pack’, I turned my attention to the less visible linkages underneath.

For a vehicle that could only dream of topping forty miles an hour, there’s a hell of a lot of gubbins’ built in to try and make it stop! I’ve added most of this to the kit with plastic card and brass rod of varying diameters for the rods and air pipes, but I confess that there a couple of link rods visible on the technical drawings that remain a mystery to me.

Other areas receiving attention at this stage are towards the front. The shaping of the front axle ends is a little simplified on the kit, so I’ve remodelled them with plastic card and Milliput. Finishing touches are Greif nuts and bolts and king pin dust caps from the spares box.
