Chapter 1 - What items am I going to use?

In the review, I discussed the options that a modeler may want to use for choosing the donor kit and other add-ons. So here’s the list of what I chose.

1. Legend Sherman III (M4A2) Conversion (for Academy M4/M10)
2. Dragon M4A2(76) Red Army
3. RHPS WE210 Double I Bar Tracks
4. Formations F018 Sherman Pioneer Tools
5. Formations F019 Early .50 cal Machine Guns with50 Round Ammo Box
6. Formations F002 Early Sherman One Piece Cast Transmission Cover
7. Warriors 35389 British Desert Rat Tankers

So why did I choose these items? Well I chose the Dragon M4A2(76) Red Army kit because I really liked having the photoetch light guards, the metal tow cable, and the clear head lights and tail lights. Oh, and it was on sale at Mission Models (www.missionmodels.com) so I got it real cheap.

I went with the RHPS Double I Bar Tracks for two reasons. First, I love RHPS tracks. They’re really easy to build and look great when painted. Second, the particular tank I’m going to model had the Double I Bar tracks (RHPS also makes the T51 pad tracks).

I chose the Formation Pioneer Tools because I didn’t want to mess around with modifying the kit tools and since I’m not going to use an aftermarket photoetch sheet, scratch building the brackets and straps is a real time consumer. The Formations set is easy to use and looks great.

I also chose the Formations Early .50 cal MGs since nearly all of the photos I’ve seen show this type of ammo box. I will note that the Dragon MG is really nice so if you’re not a huge stickler for accuracy, the kit MG will work perfectly well.

Also, I chose the Formation early cast transmission cover simply because the particular tank I’m modeling had the cast cover and not the three piece one. As I mentioned in my review, the Legend transmission cover is great. It will find a happy home in another Sherman project I’m working on.

Finally, I chose the Warriors figures since I like to have figures on my tanks and the hatches in the Legend set are nicely detailed so closing them seemed like a shame.
