Chris,

Thanks for the input. You're completely right about the cable clamp. I checked the drawings and my location is about 1/16 of an inch too far forward.

I think we are both right about the plugs on headlight guards. I looked through my reference photos and they show both the vertical mounts that I used and the 'swept back' mount that you noted. I can see both types of mounts on hull with and without direct vision slots.

I really can't find any references explaining why there were different mounting arrangements and how they were used.

Unfortunately, as you can probably tell from the blog chapters being posted, I'm a bit ahead in the build so moving the cable clamp would involve me having to do a lot of repaint. I think I'm going to have to live with that mistake.
