Chapter 30 - Final Assembly

I don’t have much to report in this chapter. This is really a summary and opportunity to show the finished model which I’ll also post to the gallery.

When I wrote the initial review of the of the Legend LF1096 Sherman III Early Conversion set, I gave it 4 ½ stars. So would I change my review? No. I thought this set was all I expected. Most of the items I noted in the review were pretty much born out in the build. Other than the instructions, this set is really fantastic.

In addition, I found the other add-on sets like the Formations, single piece transmission cover, the pioneer tools, the early .50 cal MG to be excellent as well.

The Eduard photoetch light guards also worked out great and the RHPS tracks are really the top of the line.

The figures and the water well turned out to be worth every penny and I can’t recommend them enough.

I think I’d stick to an Academy kit for the donor since the effort to use the Dragon kit really didn’t end up being worth it. Don’t get me wrong, the Dragon kit is great on its own. I just wouldn’t use it as a donor kit.

So would I buy this set again?

You bet! In fact I already have. Well actually, I bought the sister kit LF1097 which is for the Italeri kits. It has a few extra items like the engine grills, the rear hull, and fuel caps, so it’s more universal. Online pricing has it at only about $5 USD more so that seems worth it. I plan to build a Sherman III in Italy. I won’t be needing the VVSS but its going to look really nice on my Tamiya M3 Lee.
