Chapter 9 - The Rear Hull Plate
Part A6 is the rear of the lower hull. This is obviously the same for the Hornisse kit because of all the holes to be drilled through the back. For the Nashorn only 6 need to be drilled, these are for part B7 and the 2 spare roadwheel hangers.
These hangers are really nice preformed metal wire and I for one would by a bag of them if I could.
I used a little bit of wire heated with a lighter and pushed it through the backside to minimize visible marks on the outside. On the real vehicle these appear to be welded on.
Next I attached B7 and then filled the entire backside of A6 because it will be visible from the inside of the finished model.
Part A12 received a tow cable attachment point because it just looked odd without it.
The worst part of the rear assembly is the actual fir of the part A6. It should follow the angle of the hull. If this is done then the brackets that should be attached to the to hooks on the hull are actually above them. After much dry fitting I figured there was nothing to be done but to remove the top brackets, make new ones, and locate them below the original lower brackets. Now things will line up a little better but I still have some concern about this piece and so I have not attached it to the hull yet. |
