Chapter 16 - Base Camouflage Coats
And here is the finished base coats of camo on the hull. I know I'm jumping around a bit, I'm still getting used to keeping a log of the build.
The green color is Gunze 'Dark Green', which matches up almost perfectly to the color chips in Mike Starmers books. As mentioned in an earlier chapter, the sand color is ModelMaster 'Sand'.
The hull itself was painted according to the markings I put on it earlier. Initially the green was sprayed on with an airbrush, as carefully as possible around the outer edges to prevent blending the colors too much. I then went back with a brush to sharpen up the edges as best I can. Some areas, especially around the transmission cover, were a bit difficult to get as nicely as I wanted. The Gunze paint is actually a semi-gloss intended for aircraft, but that problem will be fixed in the weathering process.
Not seen on these angles, and probably to be completely lost in weathering, is the white underside for the transmission cover and gun barrel. But trust me, it's there. You can also see that the bogie units have been attached at this point. |
