Chapter 18 - Back in the saddle
After a very long hiatus, the Ram is back under construction.
The hull shape had to be modified slightly when it was discovered that the drawings in the Hunnicutt book are, apparently, a little off. The hull, built according tot he drawings, will not fit with the Italeri lower hull allowing for air cleaner clearance. I checked the drawings of the M4A1 hull and the Ram hull and discovered that the Ram hull drawing was about .060" too short compared to the dimensions listed in the back and the M4A1 and M3A1 drawings, which should have the same length. I know it's sacrilege, but there it is.
I added a strip to the front of the hull, faired it in and then added the turret ring and the driver's periscope. I have dry fit the Italeri lower hull with differential cover to this hull and it fits with just enough room for a set of Formations round air cleaners to fit "up the spout". |
