The Transmission cover and Upper Hull

Before I mounted the E9 suspension spacers, I wanted to fit the transmission cover and the upper hull. I didn’t want to worry about breaking the smaller parts on the spacers while mounting and fitting the larger pieces.

With the trimming and test fitting I’d done while assembling the lower hull, I knew the upper and lower hull would fit cleanly. The transmission cover is intended to be a drop in and it was so I had no real problems.

Before mating, I mounted the engine deck and gave the inside a shot of Olive Drab. I plan to leave the hull hatches closed for the setting I intend to use but I wanted to make sure the rear of the tank interior was painted since you can see in from under the back of the rear hull.

Overall, the fit was no problem and I needed just a bit of putty to blend the sponson fillers and also around where the upper hull meets the transmission cover.

Finally, I needed to add the fenders in the front left and right side. Formations gives you a very nice set of fenders but they’re for the VVSS suspension. With the E9 modification, I needed the wider HVSS fenders. I just couldn’t bring myself to ruin the nice Formation fenders just for a small triangle of resin. Instead, I cut a piece out of sheet styrene and fitted it in place. I used 0.03 inch sheet which is to thick but I wanted to make sure I had a sturdy part since both the front and side fenders will be attached to it. Once these are mounted, the thickness will not be noticeable anyway.
