The E9 Suspension Revisited

Yesterday Brad Butkovich posted some great photos of the E9 suspension spacers. These are much better photos than I had when I made the spacers. From his photos I could see that I had a few errors. Here’s what I could see as being wrong:

1. The spacers have a small flange mounted to the underside of the hull.
2. The spacers are welded to the side of the hull.
3. The top of the spacers are angled, not flat.
4. The VVSS bogies are slightly lower than the standard suspension.

One of the cool things about writing a blog is that you can get help and info. Unfortunately I when I saw these photos I’d already installed the fenders. I decided that I would make as many corrections as possible but I’m not willing to disassemble the fenders since I’m not sure I can get them back on correctly.

Considering that, I felt I could definitely add the flange to the lower hull and the welding to the spacer/hull sides. I really couldn’t figure out how to add the angle to the top of the spacer so I’ll have to live with that error. Finally, when I install the VVSS bogies, I’ll make an adjustment to lower them a little.
