The Turret

Assembling the turret was a pretty straight forward job. The Formations high bustle turret requires little work and most of the extra effort was to make the changes necessary to convert it to a late version.

Unfortunately, Formations doesn’t make a late, vision port cupola. Fortunately, Tiger Models does and it’s a real gem. The set comes with the cupola cast in clear resin. This lets you leave the vision ports clear for a great look. Too bad there are no masks for them! I was really stuck on how to mask these ports since I’d heard not to use liquid mask on clear parts. Taping seemed impossible as well. Finally, I decided to mask them using white glue since it shouldn’t affect the resin. We’ll see when I get done painting.

The other item not included in the Formations set is a pedestal mount for the 0.05 Cal MG. With the vision cupola, the MG was moved to a pedestal mount like that used on the T23 76mm turrets. I didn’t have one in my spares box either so I had to scratch build it. Not too tough but a bit of a time sucker.

Other than that, I added a small cap and chain that’s used to cover the search light mount when the light is not installed. The brush guard for the loader’s periscope was an Eduard P/E item from the spares box. I also added the track links to the turret sides (3 on the left and 5 on the right) based on the reference photos. I ended up using some left over Friulmodel links because I’ve noticed that RHPS doesn’t always give you many extra links and my fumbly fingers tend to break a few.

Mounting the 76mm gun was a simple job. It fits in the same opening as the 75mm one so I just swapped barrels and added the muzzle brake from a Dragon kit.
