Chapter 19 - Diorama
The base is finished and painted now. Pink home insulation sheet with plaster of paris for the texture. I tried for the early morning sand look, where the cold can make the surface a bit crunchy and chunky when broken through. I'll do some closeups of that in the future, but it does look like the tank and track section are sitting shallow in the sand instead of just plunked on top of it.
I also started attaching the external stowage. I used some tamiya canvas rolls from their Allied stowage set, and a couple from my spares box. The straps are strips of paper on the rear fuel can and rolls hanging off the side. The funnel has been tied down the same way it appears in photos.
Since it's a bit of a maintentance scene, and the original photos show a lot of stuff stacked on the back deck, I put some gear next to the tank and have the tiedown rope hanging loose. Eventually I will be adding some 1 gallon and 2 gallon cans to the mix when they arrive. The tools are all from Formations excellent set of unstowed pioneer tools. Still working on the overall layout, but not going to finalize things until the last pieces arrive.
I'm also waiting on a few figures, so they will all be painted together. I did put a periscope in the hands of the guy in the commanders hatch, probably helping to clean the one missing from the drivers mount. Later figures in the Resicast crew set will be hunched over the engine compartment and working on the tracks. |
