| Subject: | [Chapter 1] Kits to be used | |
| Date: | Mar 19, 2006 |
| From: | Paul A. Owen | |
For this project I'm using:
1. AFV Club M3A3 Stuart - kit no. AF35053. This is a great kit. Moulded in olive styrene it also includes photo-etched parts and a turned aluminum barrel. The running gear is the best available for the M3/M5 series and is also offered as a separate kit.
2. Accurate Armour M3A3 Tank Interior - kit no. A078. Recently released by AA is an excellent resin and PE kit of the full M3A3 interior. There are also a few extra external parts included that are missing form the AFV Club kit such as side skirt mounts.
3. AFV Club T16 Track - kit no. AF35019. These are injection moulded individual track-links. They're made up of a track pad and separate guide horn linkages. The track pads in my kit suffer for a little shrinkage and there is a slight knock out pin impression on each. These will have to be filled and sanded out, which will also fix the shrinkage problem. I'm not too impressed with these tracks and may get a set of Kasten's instead. The AFV Club tracks included with the M3A3 kit are synthetic rubber loop tracks, which I've already managed to misplace.
4. Eduard M3A3 Stuart PE detail kit - kit no. 35-592. Included in this kit are tool storage brackets, which I will be using. Periscopes which I won't use as I have some TMD periscopes, although I may look from some clear ones for another manufacturer. Various deck screens and stowage screens which replace the AFV Club kit's. There are several other parts such as the 30 cal. MG barrel which I won't be using.
Reference
For reference I don't have much, only several photographs from various general books on British WW2 armour including old Profiles and more recent Concord books. B. T. White's "British Tank Names and Markings" is good. For building I have S. Zaloga's excellent "Modelling the M3/M5 Stuart Light Tank" to refer to. |
