Hi Gang,
Here's my TOP SECRET Vaccume former. I threw it together about 8 years ago on a whim to see if It would work, Guess what? this thing could suck the perverbial golf ball through the garden hose. It's a 8"x 8"x 10" wood box made from 1/2" particle board. On one end is a hole that will fit your household vaccume and on top is a 3"x 5" hole cut for the platform. I cut 3 notches about evenly spaced apart down the 5" lenght of the opening on either side and glued in 1/8"x 3/8" strips of plywood,(basswood will work too) for supports for the window screening. (see picture)I also added a strip down the middle the other way for extra support. the screen was cut oversize and simply Duct taped (handy mans secret weapon) to the top.
You need enough space for the plastic to wrap around the piece being copied,so i took strips of 1" pink foam board and wrapped the top. This is what the frame holding the soft plastic will press against allowing the plastic to be sucked down and wrap around the master part.
the frame is simply 2 pieces of 1/8" hardboard (Masonite), cut a little bigger than the top of the box (for holding) with a hole cut in the middle for the plastic.(Again see Pictures)
