Jim,
An excellent reference for info on British Shermans in Burma is the old Osprey Vanguard 15, The Sherman Tank in British Service 1942-45, by the late John Sandars (ISBN 0 85045 361 5). It is long OOP but is still available on the second-hand market (Abebooks.com have quite a few copies listed from various locations), & is simply the best handy-sized book on UK Shermans I've ever seen.
The book contains a lot of stuff about 116 Regt RAC, one of the units you mentioned. This was a converted infantry battalion (ex-Gordon Highlanders) & its soldiers wore Scottish infantry distinctions, notably the Tam-O-Shanter bonnet. 116 RAC was the senior regiment in 255th Indian Tank Brigade serving in support of IV Corps. The other regiments in the Brigade were Probyn's Horse, the Royal Deccan Horse & 7th Light Cavalry. Another interesting little titbit Sandars mentions (& proves with photos) is that Burma was the only theatre of war where UK tank crews regularly wore the US tanker's crash helmet, issued with the vehicles when they were originally supplied under Lend-Lease. Should make for some interesting variations to any figures you choose to put aboard your project!
