Obviously now is the time to actually paint the interior. First I primed it
with Tamiya "Fine" Surface Primer. Since this comes in a spray can, I also
ended up priming quite a substantial area of the vehicle around the interior,
too. Of course this isn't really an issue.

Currently all my painting is done by brush, which is all I ever used as a
teenager. I want an airbrush but my current home environment (which is very
cramped) is just completely unsuitable -- the only area I can use to build and
paint is not suitably ventilated and the risk of getting paint somewhere where
it's not wanted (i.e., the furniture) is too high. (The spray cans I can take
outside, but I can't do fine work on a model outside.) One day in the
not-too-distant future I plan to move into somewhere where I *can* use an
airbrush safely and conveniently, but that day has not yet arrived. This is
one of the reasons why I'm currently building small-scale only -- I'd prefer
not to deal with brush painting large expanses of plastic (particularly with
acrylics).

In terms of colours I generally like to stick with the easy options, which
means that I'm not normally one for mixing colours attempting to find the
"best" or "most accurate" shade if I can get "close enough" straight from the
bottle. Unfortunately I've had some trouble finding good acrylic options for
"elfenbein", the off-white or ivory used for German interiors. The closest I
could find is Gunze H85 "sail colour"and that's what I initially used here,
but it's still IMO too dark, so I overpainted it in a mix of Tamiya XF-2 Flat
White and XF-57 Buff. This was much more satisfactory, but I think I shall
have a close look at the available Citadel colours -- I'd be very surprised
indeed if they don't have some good "ivory" or "bone" shades in their range.
(I own a number of Citadel paints that I've used for painting miniature
fantasy figures and I quite like them, but they're not much use for historical
subjects. Why I never acquired an "ivory" shade before now is a bit of a
head-scratcher, actually, but never mind.) The brush painting is a little
"rough", but I deliberately avoided a smooth "perfect" finish because IMO it
helps to simulate in an abstract way the dirt and paint wear of the interior.
In any case, the limited view once the upper hull is in place means that it
should be mostly academic (I hope).

By the way, the return rollers are now attached. One of the little buggers
made a flight for freedom and had to be replaced by a scratch-built
alternative that I shaped from a piece of scrap sprue. Can you tell which one
it is?

[The colours are a bit off in these next three images, probably because I took
them with interior lighting and no flash (it's raining today, so no sunlight
...). The actual interior shade is not so "orange" as it appears here.]
