Transmission Cover Redux

Well I can never leave well enough alone. Love or hate DML there is one thing about there kits that sometimes comes in handy. There are frequently spare parts in there kits that are meant for different versions of the same basic vehicle. I really wanted to make an easy eight without add-on armor but to me the transmission cover was unpresentable. I looked at several possible solutions to my problem and finally decided to completely replace the transmission cover. Hiding it under stowage was not an option for the vehicle I’ve finally decided to model. It’s a 6 AD vehicle called Blitz-Buggy featured on page 245 of Danny S. Parker’s “Battle of the Bulge.” DML’s Sherman III kit has the necessary parts as a spare so I picked one up.

I used a piece of .030 x .040 styrene strip as a shim to prop the transmission cover up higher in relationship to the upper hull at the point where the upper hull joins the transmission cover. This allowed the cover to sit better at the lower edge of the upper hull. It still isn’t perfect but it is now passable.
