DML has designed the transmission cover mounting plate to sit virtually flush with the upper hull. This isn't quite right. The top edge should be flush or almost flush with the upper hull. It should rise up from there causing a triangular shape bulge as viewed from the hull side. Even after I shimmed the transmission cover my mounting plate still wanted to sit flush. Italeri’s and DML's M4A1s do a much better job of representing this feature.
For those who must have it right and are about as good at coming up with the perfect solution as I am, Formations makes a late transmission cover with final drive housing covers included. This'll fix two problems with one product - the transmission cover and final drive cover. The final drive cover is too small, but more on that later.
