Paul, I definitely do like the mini-challenges. The only real complaint that I have is sometimes I don't catch the original post and almost miss the deadlines.... such as today.
Maybe you can do a small addition to the front page to link to it? Maybe under the bigger picture of the larger contest, you can do just a basic link that says 'Click here for this month's mini-challenge' or something like that.
Also, going back to the PzIVE challenge. The original 'test' was to build the DML PzIVE in less than a month, and nobody was really able to do so. I really liked the actual "Challenge" aspect of that one, since it pushed me to do something outside the normal and not only did I have to think about how to have the best looking model.... I also had to worry about if I was going to finish it at all.
For future ones, maybe try to add some type of difficulty to them in addition to a basic theme? Maybe something like "Same subject, 2 scales" where you have to do the same model twice in two different sizes. Or a case of "Repaint an old kit" where we have to show before and after photos of the same kit but in different schemes.
