This is the Sovereign Sdkfz 247B armored car. I reviewed it back in 2000 (http://www.track-link.net/reviews/k589) and probably worked on it last in 2002.
While a unique looking vehicle, sadly Sovereign put it out without regard to several key areas. I made several corrections but when more inaccuracies came to light, I lost motivation to put the time into these major surgical issues with this all resin, heavy kit.
Now I'll try to resurrect this model.
What I've done:
1) cast copies of side view ports to replace inaccurate kit ones
2) effect a brass rod tension apparatus to keep the flimsy suspension intact and straight (huge job!)
3) add details such as fuel cap, vehicle tools, tow hooks
4) add an epoxy spare tire cover
To be done:
1) completely scratchbuild forward driver's ports (kit depictions are fantasy)
2) surgically alter driver's roof to give it a slant
3) completely convert the lower nose plate and the rectangular plate behind the bumper -- they are complete fantasy. The real thing had one continuous piece
4) restore weld lines that were wiped out
5) redo the headlights to mount to front fenders
6) add a good figure |
