Paul,
Great idea. Not sure if it'll be possible to clearly define beginners. A thought for a future contest in a similar vien is OOTB. My logic is that an OOTB contest will attract more participants who are put off by all of the 'extras' that people are adding. Makes for a low cost entry option for many modelers.
