The unmodified Jordi Rubio barrel is out of scale but the problem rests mainly in the muzzle brake. It is too large, too long and lacking in fine detail. The barrel itself should also have a very gradual taper all the way to the muzzle brake. When I started this project 8 years ago, this barrel was the only game in town and I was glad to have it. Fortunately, Armorscale now makes a shorter KwK 30 barrel for early war armored cars and Pz II's. Simply replacing the Rubio muzzle brake with the Armorscale muzzle brake brings the overall length of the gun and barrel into scale, according to the specs listed on page 10 of Schiffer Publication #43, German Medium Flak in Combat. The barrel diameter is too large at the end, making it the same diameter as the muzzle brake. To reduce the barrel diameter I carefully sanded the barrel by hand using various grades of flexible sanding film. This also gave the barrel the gradual taper I was after. I was very surprised and pleased with how much this alteration helped the flak gun's overall appearance.
