Hello,
calling them fools was no offense! of course it was a big bulky beast. but as you say, today it would be a jewel in a museum. And i guess every country in europe had the same problems after the war.
blooded out of resources and man, all the people in those countries involved in WW II took their chances and used everything they had for rebuilding. and 100 tons of steel were probably welcome.
"Nearly complete", was what my reference said. As far as i know, the hull was ready for implantation of engine and transmission. So "nearly complete" means probably just the hull. Maybe they would have used that Maus turret, wich was available, or another turret that remains unknown until today.
Anyway i was not there and have ro rely on the books i have.
I am grateful for every information i can get about it.
