Hi Dave,
The main problem areas for me were 1, the fuel tank and its brass armour plating. I somehow got confused how a bracket fitted to the end of the plating and managed to totally destroy it while refolding it several times. 2, Making sure that the gun cruciform is correctly positioned in the casement. As you can see from the text, I had to rebuild the gunshield from plastic card and I had quite a job getting the gun to fit correctly. 3, The usual problem with wheeled vehicles...getting all the wheels to touch the ground...lol I try to get them as level as possible and then make final adjustments to the white metal leaf springs. Apart from that it was a pretty straightforward build. The cab needed several dry fits before it went on correctly but that was more about my building than the kit design. I would suggest leaving all the little resin screw clamps off until after you have painted and weathered....most of mine are stretched sprue replacements due to breakages while painting/weathering.
As for references, they are very few. I was tempted to do a UK paint job as I have one photo of a Deacon in brown/black mickey mouse ear cammo. It is in George Forty's book 'World War II AFV's. The vehicle has a WD number F88431 in white on the nose plate and does not have the stowage points along the right hand body that are supplied in the kit. No other markings are visible. |
