Bob,
I'd love to do an MMIR article if they're interested. I'm a huge fan of the magazine an even have a 'subscription' (Great Models sends me the latest each time its out).
I started this project with the intent to clean out the spares box. The easy way to do this build is to convert the DML M-50. I managed to choose the ridiculously hard way. Here's the run down on how I built it.
The lower hull is from the ancient (1970's) Tamiya M-36 Jackson, modified to the right length. The upper hull and transmission cover are from the Tamiya M4. The rear hull and engine deck is from the Academy M51. The rear has a scratchuilt exhaust deflector and the engine deck has a scratch built exhaust pipe and engine deck add-on that reflects the new engine (the white parts in the photos of the unpainted model). The HVSS running gear is a DML set and the tracks are the Academy M51 rubber bands. I added the Aber HVSS fenders and the Aber M50 photo-etch set for detail. Also the new drivers hatch (with the IR drivers persicope) is scratch built. Tools, the gun crutch (modified) and the stowage bins are from the Academy M51.
The turret is the Verlinden M50 resin set with a scratch built barrel and targeting sensor (the ball on the top of the turret). There's miscellaneous scrath built items and some pieces from the Academy M51.
The figure is a Verlinden Israeli figure with a modernized helmet. Stowage is miscellensous pieces from my big bag of stowage stuff.
The model was finished with Model Master paints and multiple washes and dry brushing to get the final effect.
Its funny that after writing this reply, I'm realizing how much work went into not buying the DML kit. Even more funny is that I just bought it so I can build an M50! Oh well, that's what we modelers do.
Thanks.
