Well, it's not really a dio, but I was asked to post a few pictures of my most recent effort - a 120mm Kirin figure.
This is my second attempt at doing a figure in this scale. While I didn't really have any particular desire to do this particular figure, it was on sale for less than $20 at a local hobby shop, and I figured it would be a good base to practice my skills on.
I painted the face with Windsor Newton oils using "The Bannerman Way" as described by Mark in articles here on TL.
The uniform was airbrushed a base coat of acrylics using Tamiya Field Grey and a touch of flat Dark Green. Next a darkened shade (with flat black added) of the same colour was sprayed from beneath the figure, hitting the shadows, and a lightened colour (lightened with flesh) was sprayed from above, to hit the highlights. I would later use oils to dry brush the edges of pockets and other raised areas.
Kit boots and straps were painted with humbrol enamels. The black leather was first undercoated in a mix of brown bess and a lighter brown. Once dry, flat black was painted over this, and then I rubbed the edges down a bit so the brown would show through, given the leater a worn look.
The snow is micro-balloons mixed with matte acrylic medium to form a paste, and spread with a spatula.
