Commonwealth Gun Tractor

This is Tamiya's old gun tractor built out of the box. The scene depicts a driver getting directions somewhere out in the desert. There are lots of tire tracks that don't really show up in the photos.

The kit fits together fairly well except filler is needed where the bonnet (hood) attaches to the chassis. I tried to make the truck look fairly worn, with a couple of shades of sandy colored paint brushed on, and a lot of chalk dust. It was all hand painted with PollyScale paints. They work well, leaving few brush marks. I tried making tie downs for the canvas cover on the roof, but gave up, because I was just making a mess of things.

The standing figure is from DML's Bishop, although I replaced the head with one of Ultracast's fine offerings. I also used the kit supplied driver, also with an Ultracast head. Unfortunately you can barely see him in the photos and in real life. And of course, the paint job on that face is among
my best so far... sigh!

The base is an old picture frame with kitty litter, sand, dirt and white glue making up the groundwork. A lot of pastel chalk was scrubbed into the ground, with colors matching the truck.

Note how oblivious the snipers are to the onset of warm weather in the last photo... ;-)

Any comments or questions are welcome.
