British M10
Anti-Tank Regiment of the Royal Artillery
Sword Beachhead, Normandy 1944
This is the AFV Club kit with a number of additions/changes plus some after market items. The kit was built for MMM2001 as part of a private bet - fail to show up with a finished M10 and you pick up the bar tab. We both showed up with M10s so we had to cover our own tabs.
The interior was detailed/corrected using parts from the Verlinden M10 update set including the radio (the radio should be a British issue Mk 19 but due to time restrictions I cheated a little) and 3 inch shells. The remainder of the interior was detailed with styrene, wire and brass strip.
The exterior was detailed using assorted photo etch parts, styrene and brass wire. Other modifications to the exterior of the tank included the relocation of the hull rivets, improved suspension and a scratch built exhaust deflector.
The stowage, figure and decals are mainly from Ultracast and the spares box. DML individual track links were used to replace AFV's offering. The kit was finished in Tamiya and Gunze acrylics and weathered using dry brushing and washes.
Overall, I enjoyed this project although I did experience a little stress when the deadline was only a couple of days away and my decal solvent ate through my paint job. As for the AFV M10 kit ... it has some problems but with a little work a number of these can be fixed resulting in a nice model.
Now if some one would only release an Achilles!
