I built this kit with a few changes.
I thinned the fenders down, and deformed them a bit.
I lost one of the crude vision ports from the turret, so I just blanked it out. Repaired battle damage?!
The kit supplied tracks are horrible. I replaced them with a set from a DML T-34/85. These are later tracks, that fit easily on this vehicle. I believe the new tracks were added when that battle damage was repaired...
I added antennae made from brass wire.
The kit was brush painted with Model Master Russian Armor Green. It ends up being semi-gloss. I learned through trial and much error that pastel chalks don't stick very well to the semi-gloss surface!!
I used black pastels to color the radiator grills and leave exhaust soot. I believe these were diesel powered beasts, so there would be plenty of soot I think.
I used a little pencil lead to simulate wear.
The base is an unfinished plaque painted with acrylics. I used Elmer's water soluble wood putty for the mud. I applied this liberally to the chassis of the tank, and the ground. I painted the groundwork with oils on a base of acrylics. Static grass was added to the oil paint on the ground and the vehicle.
One problem was that when the putty dried, it pushed the tracks and running gear apart on one side. It looks like one set of tracks is floating on mud a bit. Imagine a T-34 making a high-speed turn...
