As a proud owner of a thirty-two years old VW I know that situations like the one depicted by the present diorama is rather rare. The idea came out as a joke just because Tamiya released the German Tank Engine Maintenance Crew Set (#35180) and Kübelwagen Engine Set (#35220). I thought it was just the time to exploit the old Airfix kit, converting it into a VW Type 68 (1939).
The first Beetle (KdF-Wagen Type 60) came out in 1936. In the following three years a good number of types was produced. KdF-Lieferwagen (a small delivery lorry) was one of them. For this conversion I have used Kübelwagen wheels and Opel Blitz wooden coach parts from the spare box. The notek light and the horn come from Tamiya’s Panzer IV accessories (#35185). I have also used plastic sheet and rods from Evergreen, Grandline bolts as well as brass wire and bars. The cobbled road is from Verlinden and the small chapel is from Plus Models.
It has been painted with acrylics, dry brushed with enamels and dusted with pastels.
