15cm s.I.G.33 B Selbstfahrlafette

Model by James Tainton

I built this kit using Alan's 1/35 Military Miniature Series No. 012. This kit is from Russia. I used the Eduard Photo-etch kit # 35345. I used a Jordi Rubrio barrel and gun mount as well-# TG-11,(although I should have just saved some money and got the package that just has the barrel.) I ordered boogie wheel replacement sprues,(A parts,2 sprues) from Tamiya from their Wespe kit. I also used the armatures and springs as well. The jerry cans that come with the kit are latter model ones and I replaced them with Tamiya ones that are more appropriate to the time period. The front gun shield had to be redone to be more accuate, its too narrow as is in the kit. I really detailed the drivers area opening veiw ports and hatches and even including a clear rectangular piece of plastic in a frame as a bullet proof ,glass vision block! I used the Friulmodel tracks for the Wespe as well.
I painted my self propelled gun with the Gunze #66, as I felt this approximated the brown color of DAK vehicles. I clear coated with Future, applied decals and weathered with a dark oil paint wash of burnt umber and black mixed with paint thinner. This was wiped back after drying and then clear coated with Humbrol matt clear 49 and then drybrushed using oil paints. This was all mounted on a simple base covered in beach sand and spiced up with a few figures. The tanker with his leg up on the barrel is from Verlinden #VP 950- Afrika Korps Party WWII and the other guy eating is from Dragon kit #6063 Deutsche Afrika Korps with a Hornet head . I use the Verlinden decal sheet of uniform markings. The Camel is from Sol in Korea.
