M4A3 Sherman, 5th Marines Iwo Jima 45

Italeri's M4A3 Sherman built to represent a 5th Division Marine tank, "Hedgehog", at Iwo Jima.

These tanks had nails welded to the hatches to keep off sachel charges. They had wooden planking on the sides and also by the wheels so suiciders couldn't jump in between them with explosives.

Balsa wood planking, copper wires for nails, Tamiya Jumbo tracks and Tamiya sandbags were used on my model.
