I think the Sovreign 2000 Austin K5, featured here, is one of the nicest resin wagon kits you can buy. It's not that it's exceptionally advanced, detailed or even accurate, but it does assemble very well and provides a sturdy and inexpensive (relatively, this is in resin after-all) basis for a lot of detailing.
I chose to begin my detailing work with the engine, a little of which is visible if, as I did, you opt to leave the side panels off and replace the solid cast radiator grill, which comes with the kit, with some mesh. The rest of the detailing work involved replacing the 'heavy' kit items, like mud guards, P.O.W carriers, lights etc and scratch building or raiding the parts box for items missing from the kit, like the tilt, tie downs, mirrors and all the other small details which go to make a good model.
A last word must go to the base. Most of the construction was straight forward enough, with the usual static grass, Ultracast figures with Hornet heads, but the tree which is just visible in the background of some of the pictures was a different story. Seeking the most accurate tree possible, I attempted to make the thing with hundreds of individual paper leaves on a wire and milliput frame. Whilst the effect is quite nice- it's an avenue for making foliage that should only be persued by the very, very patient [View discussion] [Discuss my model]
