M40-75/18 75mm Semovente, 3rd Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery

Model by Steve Guthrie

This is the Italeri kit, built 'out-of-the-box'. I built it as a test-bed for the new (to me) 'black base-coat/misted top coat' painting style. Then I weathered it using the 'sprayed filter/wet pastel chalk'system.

The model is based on a vehicle seen in a Canadian Army newsreel showing artillery preparations for the Savio River crossing in October 1944. The markings are dry-transfer lettering and white pencil crayon, simulating painted-on and chalked-on markings. 'Zombie' refers to those soldiers in Canada who refused to 'go active' and volunteer for overseas service. The believed if they went, they would be killed, so they dubbed themselves zombies: the living dead. The attitude of soldiers already overseas is summed up by dubbing an enemy SP used against its former comrades as 'ZOMBIE'.
