Austin Tilly

Model by Alex Hill

Everybody say "Ahhh, isn't it sweet". The little Austin Tilly has to be one of the least military looking military vehicles you're likely to come across. It is after all only slighty different to the civilian vehicle which was the transport of choice for pre-war vicars and district nurses, but, proved its self rugged enough to provide a light liason vehicle for the British army for the war years and beyond. Given the luxury of a proper roof and doors, I suspect (as long as the going under foot wasn't too rough) the Tillys were probably even more highly regarded than the Jeep, at least in winter.

This representation of the Tilly comes from the old Azimut kit, which despite it's age is age is very well detailed. Fit of the major parts is a little ropey, but nothing that can't be corrected with a little filler. Apart from a little light detailing the only part I adding was the tilt. I built this in my usual way, with a wire frame covered with regular paper.
