Preparing Positions

Diorama by Michael Bishop

This flak crewman and machine gunner are strategizing fields of fire in anticipation of a coming attack. The Opel Blitz has found new use as a flak mount after being abused by the harsh desert conditions. Both men have hand grenades at the ready, assuming the fighting will be at close quarters ultimately. The Italeri truck was modified a little by scratch building a new bed and salvaging the front cargo wall. The rear fenders were left off to better depict a truck which has been salvaged and kept going by field repairs. A rack for the ammo cans was made from plastic "L" beams. The panzer gray base was overpainted with various tan shades, which were scrubbed off with alcohol in places to show wear. The palm insignias were handpainted. The flak gunner is by Hornet I think and the machine gunner is from a Hitler Youth figure but I can't remember the manufacturer. The groundwork was sculpted from foam. The column ruins were made by coring foam with a length of brass tubing. The plugs make instant, aged columns.
