Having found myself with a Tamiya CCKW, an Italeri closed cab CCKW, a Real Model US6 conversion and an Eduard sheet for the Tamiya, I decided to try a mix and match of parts to get the best out of all four. The Italeri kit has a steel cargo body and lacks under bonnet detail which makes it the obvious choice for acting as a donor for the Real model conversion (reasoning to become clear when the US6 is finished and becomes a possible gallery submission). This left me with the Tamiya kit and a pile of Italeri closed cab parts. Obvious choice -- stick the closed cab on the Tamiya chassis.
In it's OOTB form the cab fits straight on (well, almost) but I wanted to utilise the better detailed Tamiya front body work and the Eduard vented side panels, hence a fair bit of juggling was required, since all three manufacturers have an ever so slightly different idea about the size of a GMC! other work on the cab involved filling the hole for the hip ring in the roof and adding the Eduard parts that weren't required for the US6. The chassis was detailed in the usual way, with the addition of brake lines etc, Stowage was applied in the form of mine own plaster castings and Accurate Armour items.
