This is the Alan Flakpanzer 38(t), with an Eduard PE, Modelkasten tracks and Calibre 35 bolts. The Alan kit required quite a bit of modification. The main work involved removing and replacing the inaccurate bolt and rivet heads which cover the vehicle. The excellent Armour in Focus "Flakpanzer 38t" helped here, with some clear profile shots. The driver's hood and the side projections were rounded to represent an early machine. A huge triangular hole on the LHS of the superstructure filled and sanded, this must be a relic of another Alan Pz. 38(t) version. Other errors and relics, which are too numerous to mention, were corrected. The Eduard PE adds a great deal to the kit, and is recommended.
I decided to paint the vehicle as 1st SS Pz. Div. "LAH", Normandy - a reference lifted from the Armour in Focus book. It was painted with Tamiya Acrylics, given oil washes and filters and dry-brushed with Humbrol enamels. I'd put off making this model due to the huge amount of work required to put it right (and I'm not that much of a perfectionist as I'm sure you can tell.) It was an enjoyable and rewarding project. One less on the "shelf of shame". Any comments, good or bad, will be gratefully received. [View discussion] [Discuss my model]
