This isn’t a modern era figure. The idea of creating this figure came from 3 sources. First I was inspired by the many sculpted figures by Bill Horan I had seen at the MMSI show in Chicago. I wanted to try my hand at a completely sculpted figure. A second influence was that a member of our local club (Scott Nelson) was heavily into the US civil war, he had a lot of research material, Bill Horan was sculpting many figures of this period and I wanted to sculpt a figure in honor of my friendship with my fellow club member. Third influence were my roots being from Wisconsin so that is why the Iron Brigadier.
The only thing that was not scratch built was the armature. I used an old 1/25th scale Tamiya US radio operator for the armature. This figure than is 77mm. Everything was scraped clean from the figure, repositioned and than sculpted using A + B epoxy putty. I did this figure around 1992 or so thus he has been around for awhile. Some parts were made with styrene, others with brass rod but mostly the epoxy putty.
Hope you enjoy him, he was fun to create. [View discussion] [Discuss my model]
