M35 Gun Truck - The Mafia, Ambush Alley, Vietnam, 1968

This is a model of the M-35 Gun Truck called 'The Mafia'. Gun trucks were used extensively in Vietnam to provide convoy protection from ambushes. They were especially used on Highway 1, called 'ambush alley' that led to the central highlands.

The model is a conversion of the AFV Club M35 Gun Truck kit. The base conversion is from Legends with some additional modifications to the configuration shown. Also used are Eduard P/E, Mission Models 0.50 cal shells (theres over 100 spread around), Verlinden stowage, and a number of scratch built items like the radio headset.

The figures are modified from several Verlinden sets.

I need to give special thanks to my father for some of the details. He served in a MASH unit in Vietnam and rode in the convoys with the Gun Trucks.
