This is one of my oldest dioramas, built in 1992. I was VERY hesitant to add it to this site, and then I decided - Oh well, what the heck.. We are all on this site to share our work after all, the good the bad AND the ugly, right..? :-)
It had been in storage for many years and last year I took it out and noticed that it was rapidly deteriorating - so I decided to take some pics of it (sorry for the grass in the background, I took these pics outdoors). The water was cracking badly (as is very obvious in these pictures), and those with sharp eyes will notice that the radar mast has snapped and sitting at a rather strange angle. I decided after the photo session to break it up and will reuse the accessories and figures for another diorama at some point (I will probably re-paint the figures). I threw the boat away, it was too damaged.
At the time when I built this, I was a little naive when it came to accuracy. You will notice that I incorrectly used a German WWII bunker in this diorama..! Well, it had the "look" I wanted..! haha
The Tamiya PBR was a pleasure to build, it is a great kit..! It was built straight out of the box from what I can recall.
Almost all figures are from Verlinden. Plants are a mixture of etched items and plastic aquarium plants cut to size and painted. The palm tree is from Verlinden.
Other than that, it was so long ago I built it, I don't remember where all the other bits and pieces came from.
Despite its obvious drawbacks and blatant inaccuracies, the diorama won the People's Choice Award at the IPMS Open in Stockholm in 1993, so I was quite proud of it (it was of course in better condition then too). There are a ton of things I would do differently if I was making the same diorama today, though.
Comments are welcome (be gentle now.. hahaha)
